Lookin’ ‘em in the eye

So from upper left to right:

Common Magpie, Eurasian Robin (about half the size of the American Robin), molting Eurasian Blackbird (cousin and same size as our American Robin), male Tufted Duck,  Canada Goose, female Tufted Duck, Dabchick (LIttle Grebe).

The Blackbird was just outside the kitchen door at Yani and Stella’s house in Dulwich, where we are staying.  He was into the pyracantha bush for its berries, now ripened.

Note the white specks.  This bird is molting.  My best thrush picture so far in England was of a different species, an entirre migrating flock flew into a tall evergreen inthe garden at the Dulwich Picture galley yesterday:

OTHER PICTURES WORTH SHARING:

These Dabchicks weren’t dabbling, they were squabbling.  Loudly.  A series of shrill squeals as one pair seemd to be chasing away their full-grown youngster.  “Stop pestering me, young ‘un.”

pushy American squirrels are everywhere

The Common Coot and its Moorhen relative. Note the coots here are larger, see comparison with the standard-sized Mallard above.

Here’s the only shot I could get of the Eurasian Jay. They’re the shyest of the corvids here.

Nice pics – good to see the European species and how they differ from ours.
