I had to drive to Corvallis and back today. So I got to do a little roadside birding going and coming. There are many Cackling Geese moving about in flocks over the flat fields of the Willamette Valley. I saw Cackling Geese at Finley NWR south of Corvallis, over OR 99W in Benton and Lane Counties and a field (along 99W) with at least 5000 Cacklers between Junction City and Monroe, Oregon.
Some farmers have interesting ways to keep the geese from grazing their fields, like this faux-yote.
There was a Bald Eagle on the South Umpqua at Mytle Creek and a Barn Owl in the late afternoon glooming along I-5 south of Cottage Grove.
