Here is a White Pelican, landing at Emigrant Lake on December 9th. Is this the lone pelican that “broke the ice” on the Medford cokunt, as the first White Pelican ever reported for the Medford CBC? 
Here’s a 2012 Medford CBC summary from Bob Hunter, count hauncho:
129 species were observed on count day and 130 for the count week.
59 people participated.
The American white pelican was a count first.
The Harris’s Sparrow has only been seen in 3 counts; Red Crossbills have only been seen in 5 counts; Horned Grebe has only been seen in 5 counts; Townsend’s Warbler have only been seen in 8 counts; the Ferruginous Hawk has only been seen in 9 counts; the Black-billed Magpie has only been seen in 14 previous counts, but there was a high count of 15 that had been seen in 1977, so maybe there used to be more in the valley (From the data it appears there have been 63 Medford counts).
There were high counts of Red-shoulderd Hawk (22); Peregrine falcon (11); Eurasian Collared-Doves (134); Red-breasted Nuthatch (44); Townsend’s Warbler (2); and Red Crossbills (53).
No gulls were seen though ring-billed gulls have been seen in 29 counts and California gulls in 11 counts.
Only 4 pheasant were reported, which seems low given they have been seen in 61 previous counts with a previous low count number of 2. Though white-tailed kites are not seen every year this years count of 6 was only 1 more than the previous low count for years they have been reported.

BTW WQe are now in count week for the Ashland Count which is december 27th, so find those rare warblers, abd a Hutton’s Vireo would be nice along with a Bohemian Waxwing. Start lookin’
