THE GREAT ONE

GHO 3

GHO 7
These two shots of a Great Horned Owl were taken by Peter Thiemann in the small willows along the Lower Klamath NWR Auto Tour Route. The trees are about half a mile south of the large cottonwoods occupied by eagles and hawks as you head south from Stateline Road on the western leg of the auto tour. There was both a male and female GHO the day we were there. The owls frequent the willows as the only un-eagled trees within miles. Owls like their privacy though there was at least one Red-tailed Hawk perched in those willows as well. This location is in iskiyou County, CA.
