HARPY3
This a year old Harpy Eagle, still on the nest where it was born. These birds cruise the canopy of some New World forests. Among their prey are primates. They are the largest eagles on earth. This bird will be self-sufficient at age 3. Here he is looking down at us. We were east of the end in the Pan-American Highway, an hour on riverboat to Real Santa Maria, another ten miles in a pick-up truck bed, then a five kilometer hike to the nest site. Near Darien National Park, the wildest part of Panama. Nice-lookin’ kid.

  1. Wow! What a great experience. I liked the Spot-breasted Woodpecker post as well.
