All these gull pictures are from the shore of San Francisco Bay from the Marina to Fort Point beneath the Golden Gatne Bridge. In order: Heermann’s Gull (most of them are in southern California now); a likely Western X Glaucous-winged hybrid with starfish; two adult Western Gulls, the second with its own starfish; an adult Ring-billed Gull. The two gulls hoping for a hand-ojt are adult Westerns at crissy Field.  Click on this image for a full screen view of Fort Point and Golden Gate Bridge.

  1. So, are gulls as promiscuous as ducks?

    • yes and it is not clear that our concept of species really means much in practice among oaks and gulls
