I am back in England physically, but it is cold, windy, raining and gray…so my mind is still on those sunlit birds along the Rio Tejos.
Here are three Spotless Starlings on rooftop cell-phone transmission antennae. There is an entire ecosystem on Lisbonese roofs: Black Redstarts fly-catching, Rock Pigeons and House Sparrows crumbing and sunning, Black-headed Gulls loafing, Robins singing from garden trees, Ring-necked Parakeets faffing about with lots to say, European Blackbirds.
White Wagtail on farmhouse roof.
White Wagtail on lawn at Jeronimos Monastery, Belem. On our birding trip to the Tejos Estuary we saw all three European species, one Gray and one Yellow Wagtail as well as the White.
