WRENTIT AMONG SPECIES HURT BY WEST NILE VIRUS

Overall the West Nile Virus continues to kill birds across North America.  The disease is a relatively recent addition to American pathogens and is made worse by climate change. The first known case in North America was 1999 in New York City.

Several mosquito species are capable of carrying the virus which infects humans and some other mammals, reptiles and birds.  Urban birds seem more susceptible.  Here’s sad result of latest continent-wide study of bird deaths.
