HIGH WATER, HIGH EAGLE

A Bald Eagle sat atop his conifer, tallest along that stretch of North Yamhill River.  Beneath him the flood water surged across ball fields, grass fields and picnic lawns.  Surely somewhere the dabbling ducks are suffering from a surfeit of choices.  There once limited smorgasbord now has a surface area about fifty times what it was just two weeks ago.  Much of the lower parts of Yamhill County are now temporary sloughs and ponds.BE UPP1 (1280x960)Below is the eagle atop his tall tree: eagle-treeNYR1These photos are from Wennerberg Park, Carlton. Last night’s highest flood stage left flotsam across field and park.  The raging river has brought back what careless folks thought they had left behind.  Nothing, however, to compare with one recent morning’s trash assortment at a county park: eleven Corona beer bottle caps, two Bic cigarette lighters floating in a small stream, three unwrapped condoms, an empty Winchester ammo box.  It is all too easy to imagine the thoughtful folks who left these reminders of their ethical standards.  I would bet their six-wheel pick-up gets about 7 miles to the gallon.bottl fltsam1 LOG IN CRK (1280x960) marker
