SATURDAY BIRDS

At Yamhill Sewer Ponds this morning it wasn’t quite raining.  As I walked along tiny bits of cold moisture struck my face, the sky had broken out into a cold sweat.  The ducks were loving it.

At the sewer ponds today I saw a pair of Ruddy Ducks, first I’ve seen there this year.  When I entered the data bit about the goldeneyes, EBird asked me to stand and deliver they are so unexpected I expect.  A few days ago there was only a single female goldeneye to be seen there. RUDU MAIL (1280x960) SHOV STAND (1280x960)This male hummer was buzzing about.  The temps was over 40 degrees so he was wide awake. During cold days (below about 38) these tiny engines go into torpor to save energy and not expose themselves to hypothermia and exhaustion.  Neat trick I’d like to learn, sleeping away the cold days.  ANHU ALERT

Further north the seasonal ponds along North Valley Road were teeming with ducks.
