SHOREBIRDING

As soon as there was a brief interval of sunshine the dogs and I headed out this afternoon.  Our reward was a small flock of shorebirds on a muddy field in south Yamhill County.  Then we added a third species at the Willamette Greenway where a Spotted Sandpiper has been a winter regular, along with a Black Phoebe.  Also we passed a few Killdeer en route near McMinnville Airport.  BBP1 (1280x960) Here are Black-bellied Plover and their Dunlin retinue.BBP2 (1280x960)Thfree geese species on Grand Island.  Taverner Canadas in rear.  Five Snow geese, and rows of Cacklers in front, just beyond the tall grass.  The dark geese were present in skeins across the sky and crowds in some fields.3 GEESE2 (1280x960)3 GEESE (1280x960)I looked out at this Grand Island field and estimated there were 3.7 gaggles of geese in one place:HUNDREDS (1280x960)Above: Cacklers galore.  Below, small gathering of Taverners.TAC GEESE (1280x960)Now for your fun puzzle, Find Waldo, or in this case, find the cacklers with full or partial white necklaces:NECK-CU1 (1280x960)NECK-CU2 (1280x960)This next picture shows me 2.5 necklaces…right?NECK-CU3 (1280x960)NECK-CU4 (1280x960)Now study the crowd, you can click on image to make it bigger:NECKLACE (1280x960)NECKLACE2 (1280x960)
