SPARROWS ON THE MOVE

Wenner is now a winner.  All winter long there were only a handful of bird species at Wennerberg Park, even on a good day.  Highlights would be a Bald Eagle one day, Kingfisher another.  But now the songbirds are moving through the willows along the small river and “birdy” is the word.  Singers included Bewick’s Wren, Song Sparrow, Robins, White-breasted Nuthatch.  All four of the site’s woodpeckers were in evidence today.

The Kingfishers were not together but did fly up the river only a few minutes apart.  The cutbanks in this section may be steep and high enough to afford nest sites for these cave-diggers.  I await the arrival of the flycatchers and waxwings.
