SUMMER AND A HUMMER, ORIOLES A-NESTING

“One swallow maketh not summer.”   –John Heywood.

Three swallows, lush greenery hanging over the riverbank, swirling tornadoes of gnats, bees in blooms, singing grosbeaks–that makes a summer and even the calendar agrees now.  Today was summer.  The highlight was a pair of Bullock’s Orioles ferrying food to nestlings in a nest hidden behind some vertically hanging oak leaves:buor-femal-nest (1280x960) buor--male--nest (1280x960)In each photo the adult oriole is left of the unseen nest which is within the cluster of oak leaves hanging vertically on the right side of the image.  This nest is about thirty feet above the parking lot surrounding the toilet building at Wennerberg Park.  It is almost directly above the green sign outlining park rules.
