SCAUPRAGEOUS FLOCK & THE TEENY MEANY GLEANY

What does all that mean?  Dozens of Lesser Scaup on the Carlton Sewer Ponds today, out-numbering all other birds combined.  At neighboring Wennerberg Park a flock of the usual little winter tykes all a-flutter.

There was also a passing adult Bald Eagle and a hunting female Kestrel at the sewer ponds.  Yesterday I passed a flock of plump California Quail on the dirt entry road.

The gleaners gathered together along North Yamhill Creek-river included both flavors of kinglet (those precious named Regulus of ruby and gold), creeper and nuthatch, the local chickadees,  a solid core of nervous Bushtits and a single Downy…the

Brobdingnagian

of the group.  The rest of the gleaners could only be called tablespoon-sized, not nearly nearly up to being “half-pint.”
