YAMHILL VALLEY CBC: COAST RANGE FOOTHILLS

More than once we found Golden-crowned Kinglets feeding in the ground. I wonder if it was edibles driven down from trees by the recent snow and ice?  Often these little tykes are in the canopy.gck-goodgck-good3heth-cuTwo birds of the forest floor: Hermit Thrush above, Pacific Wren below.pac-wr-in-mossrbs-dAbove: Red-breasted Sapsucker.  California Quail covey along Baker Creek Road.caqu-dawnA trio of does in pasture along High Heaven Road:dr-1dr-2dr-3dr-4Morning Fox Sparrow, then below one in late afternoon as might faded.  You can clearly see the chevron-shaped spots, the uniformly dark face and the yellowish lower mandible.fospfosp-pm

John Plissner and I were assigned to an area that included Baker Creek Road to the gate that blocks public access and the same for High Heaven Road.  t the upper end of both there was still plenty of snow and ice and freezing fog.  But no wind or rain.  The above checklist for Metsker Park is only the second for that location on eBIrd.  The first was from my scouting visit on Friday.  The Dipper did not reappear for count day but it is a cokunt-week bird at least.  John is a bird biologist and veteran field count pro living in nearby in Washington County.
