WEST OF THE WILLAMETTE

In the garden recently:vt2-againHere’s war-war at the suet.  He comes repeatedly during the day.  War-war is his moniker to denote his warrior warbler status as he patrols the suet aisle.warwar-awarwar-bwarwar-cThis Bewick’s Wren hung around the suet but never attempted to take any.  Smells bad? Looks wrong?  Too awkward? The latter I doubt, as even the Juncos can fly up and land on the dowel perches.  I have yet to see either Song or Golden-crowned Sparrow go to the logs, nor the Spotted Towhee.bw-on-suetbw-on-suet2

A  VISIT TO HAGG LAKEhaggscape1haggscape2haggscape3Horned Grebehog-at-hagghog-at-hagg2I go birding to avoid thinking a bout politics and human folly.  But here was this fellow right in the Hagg Lake parking lot with his egregious slime trail.  So clear a reminder of our current state of governmental affairs.  I wished him well on his sluggish way.slimetrail

GRAND ROUND

cg-acg-bCacklers afoot and aloft.cg-ccg-dMale Kestrel:kest-pollThe access to the Willamette at the greenway is closed as per this sign.  For clearer understanding I refer you to my earlier comments, e.g. human folly and slime trails.  Some days it is very hard to have compassion for our species.park-closdI am not sure where I got these images but their subjects look familiar:humm2redeyeFox Sparrow on a dig, Spotted Towhee passing by, two of our largest sparrows.2sparos
