BASKETT SLOUGH SATURDAY

Our McMinnville birding class went to Baskett Slough this morning.  Foremost among our delights: no rain!  Other goodies: good views of male harrier hunting in close proximity, thousands of Cackling Geese grazing in one pasture and watching us carefully as we watched them in turn, nice views of Orange-crowned Warbler, several eagles, a pair of Cinnamon Teal not too far off.  Nothing rare except the lack of rain.

There were hundreds of flying swallows from four species.  The most abundant at two locations–Anith and Baskett Slough–were Cliff.  We did not spot a single Northern Rough-winged, however.
