I often have to travel across the Cascade Range to Klamath County to get my fill of Ferruginous Hawk, Buteo regalis. The regalness of this bird in the air in undeniable. A huge, pale buteo lazily drifting across the blue:
The Ferrugy was lazing along in the same space of sky as several other southbound birds, some TVs and a Red-tail.
In the Rogue Valley the Ferruginous is an occasional wintering bird (not plural) and an uncommon migrant.
