A friend of mine just took this picture of a Junco in her garden in Phoenix, Oregon. Whassup? Any ideas? Seems way too late for any Junco to have any version of speckled juvenile plumage.
A hybrid? If so, what’s the mix? This is clearly a male bird with that very black hood.
Could this be a slightly melanistic bird?
